The Silent Age is an atmospheric point-and-click adventure featuring challenging yet entertaining puzzles. If you’re looking for an immersive puzzler that won’t have you banging your head against the wall in frustration, dive into The Silent Age. Most importantly, the puzzles are engaging and offer a decent challenge. The stunning 70s atmosphere adds depth to the title. Joe the janitor is someone we can all relate to. The Silent Age is a unique and satisfying point-and-click adventure offering a compelling plot. By making the protagonist an average Joe, players can seamlessly imagine themselves as the player character. Joe doesn’t have anything special going for him other than being gifted with a time machine. Joe himself has a rather bland personality, but that actually works for this title. The stark contrast between the two time periods emphasizes the importance of Joe’s mission. While you may come across others in 1972, the only people you cross paths with in the future are corpses. And, of course, the dystopian modern day is silent - hence the game’s title. The post-apocalyptic environments are devoid of color when compared to the vivid 1970 surroundings. ![]() In contrast, the modern world is run down and bleak. Each little nod to the early 70s serves to further immerse the player. Bright wallpapers, disco balls and groovy retro hairstyles are just some of atmospheric touches House on Fire brings to this title. The Silent Age offers a vibrant 70s atmosphere. On the other hand, every so often you have to stop and think more carefully about the consequences of all your time travelling: how will the changes I make in the past affect the future? The Silent Age Groovy Vibes and an Average Joe The few times I got stuck, it was generally due to that last one: I’d failed to check all possible locations in both time zones and missed a crucial object. Missing an item you need? Check the other time zone. Door blocking your way? Just jump forward in time and it’ll be hanging off its hinges. More often than not, it’s just used to get you past an obstacle. The Silent Age gets a lot of mileage out of Joe’s time device. Easy to 100% and it saves in chapters so you can easily come back if you missed any achievements. The difficulty was just about right for me as far as point and clicks go. An example might be trying to find a way to open a door, and locating the means by time-travelling to locate an object that can overcome this. The game is divided into chapters, with each requiring the player to complete puzzles in order to advance to the next one. ![]() ![]() The main element of play includes a portable time machine that allows the protagonist to shift between the present and the future, allowing them to find objects in both to solve puzzles in each era. The Silent Age functions on a simple point and click interface, in which players can interact with specific objects when the cursor is over them, and must solve a series of puzzles to advance, mainly by finding items needed to overcome obstacles. You can control between travelling to the past and present. The Silent Age is a neat point & click adventure with an interesting plot and setting. The game’s story focuses on a janitor who is plunged into a task of saving humanity from an apocalyptic event by using time travel, discovering the future that will come about if the event is not prevented The game was originally released as two episodes, before both were packaged together for sale, and received positive reviews from critics upon its release. 10 chapters with unique locations, characters, and puzzles. A seamless interface that makes you feel like you’re there. Clever puzzles requiring time travel and specific items to solve. Complex characters, each with their personality and agenda.
